Overview

The Peace Race (http://peacerace.org) is an annual 10-kilometer and two-mile fun run/walk that attracts runners from all over the world to celebrate the sport of running, the spirit of the athlete, and the momentary heartbeat of peace. In keeping with its focus on childhood obesity, The Junior League of Youngstown will sponsor some of the city’s children (under age 18) to run in the race.

How it works

JLY will identify, train, and sponsor regional youth who would not otherwise have the opportunity to run in this prestigious international race. JLY will provide athletic shoes, running gear, training seminars, as well as the entry fee.

What’s the impact?

Through their involvement in the Peace Race, JLY will act as a community advocate for children’s health by establishing and encouraging regular exercise and providing appropriate training meal-plans. JLY is currently working with several organizations to leverage this into an ongoing support system for children to eat well and exercise, which will lead to improved health and better performance in school.
