How it works

JLD’s Kids in the Kitchen curriculum features a fun theme, “Super Foods + Super Fitness = Super Kids” and incorporates U.S. government nutrition guidelines. The eight-week course teaches children how to prepare easy, nutritious meals, work safely in the kitchen, and incorporate exercise into their daily lives. JLD offers the program at no cost to participating children through a generous sponsorship from UnitedHealthcare. In 2014-2015, JLD will use additional funds, raised from new sponsors like Kashi, to expand the reach of the program in the Dallas area.

What’s the impact?

In 2013-2014, the Junior League of Dallas’s Kids in the Kitchen program served roughly 350 children at seven after-school programs in nine locations throughout Dallas County. With increased funding, they hope to increase this number in 2014-2015.
