The Junior League of Dayton’s signature initiative, P.O.W.E.R. (Program of Wellness Educational Resources), is conducted in partnership with the Children’s Medical Center of Dayton and focuses on providing both health and safety educational resources. The Healthy Lifestyles program, a subset of P.O.W.E.R., focuses on promoting healthy food and exercise choices, and organizes a Kids in the Kitchen event each year.

How it works

JLCC’s annual Kids in the Kitchen event is hosted each spring at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, the region’s natural history museum for children, which is located in the center of the city and serves the target demographic. The three-hour event includes both interactive stations and food preparation demonstrations by local experts.

 What’s the impact?

The event usually draws over 300 children, contributing to the Healthy Lifestyle program’s yearly milestone of reaching over 1,500 children.
